TYPE OF FILES IN thinkorswim

There are different types of files that are shared between ToS users. 

Shareable Links

The most common file is a shareable link, for instance http-//tos.mx/FileName. 

This shareable link allows people to share charts with settings and studies already set, workspaces, scans, individual studies, and much more. 

This link directly opens a webpage and directs the user to download the file to ToS. Then the shared file can be opened automatically by clicking “View in thinkorswim” and follow their instructions.

However, sometimes the link is inactive or unresponsive, thus other further steps need to be taken to open it.

It can be opened from within ToS it self, but first make sure you have copied the https-//ts.mx/FileName link. 

Then follow these steps:

1. Once in ToS, go to Set Up.

2. Then Select shared items...

3. Paste copied link in pop up.

4. Click Preview.

5. Click Import.

thinkScript Files

Not all files from ToS are sharable links. ToS has other individual files that are shared between users. 

For instance, thinkScript files. These type of files end in *.ts and they are files that contain studies and strategies.


Workspaces Files

The next type of file are the files that contain workspace information. These files look like this workspace.FileName.xml.

The workspace files need to install directly to the thinkorswim folder in your computer.

Text Files


The last type of file commonly share is a plain text file in the format of word, pdf, etc. These plain text file contain the raw thinkScript code that needs to be pasted into the thinkScript Editor in ToS. 

Once the file has been installed into ToS and added to a Chart, its ready to use at your own risk.
